Flow chemistry is most limited by two key aspects that ultimately will determine its fate: achieving high enough temperatures to drive difficult reactions to complete at reasonable flow rates and reactor plugging. A conceptually unique reactor system has been built that allows flowed transformations to be run at almost limitless temperatures while maintaining very high backpressure (>1000 psi) so as to maintain everything in the liquid state. The key feature in this design is a backpressure system that doesnot physically contact and constrict the flowing stream, as all conventional devices currently do, thus eliminating the plugging issues that they create.
