[n]Cycloparaphenylenes ([n]CPPs) have emerged as interesting nanostructures and attracted the attention of synthetic, theoretical and physical chemists recently.  Unique optoelectronic properties and carbon nanotube-like architectures render them promising materials in a variety of disciplines.  Herein, recent efforts towards the synthesis and characterization of structures related to [n]CPPs are disclosed.  Furthermore, an analysis of the photophysical properties of these novel structures is addressed from both an experimental and a theoretical standpoint.
