In this talk we discuss a number of catalysts that have been studied in 3D with nanometer resolution using electron tomography (ET or 3D-TEM). First, mesoporous zeolites used for hydro-isomerisation and cracking of heavy oil to transportation fuels are considered. Electron tomography is used to asses quantitatively the mesopore network and its consequences for catalysis [1]. Second, copper nanoparticle distributions are tuned over ordered mesoporous silica supports and studied with ET.
