Gold carbonyl adducts are the useful models for likely intermediates in various gold catalyzed processes involving carbon monoxide. However, gold carbonyl complexes are rare. We discovered that it is possible to stabilize cationic gold(I) carbonyl adducts using strong  sigma-donating ligands like N-heterocyclic carbenes and phosphines. To understand the nature of Au(I)-CO interaction, detailed computational studies have been carried out. Herein, the isolation, spectroscopic data, and computational elucidation of these rare adducts will be presented.
