We report the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of �-butyrolactone using a super Br�nsted acid as an organocatalyst and 3-phenyl-1-propanol (PPA) as the initiator. The polymerization homogeneously proceeded with well-controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersity indices. The 1H NMR, SEC, and MALDI-TOF MS measurements of the obtained poly(�-butyrolactone) also indicated the presence of the PPA moiety at the a-chain end. In addition, we expanded this polymeric system to the synthesis of end-functionalized PBL using various functional alcohols as the initiator.
