Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy and imaging has become an important industrial tool in recent years.  This talk will focus on the development of a new THz spectroscopy and imaging system which features the first practical Cherenkov THz radiation source using a non-linear LiNbO3 crystal. The key technology advancement utilizes a proprietary silicon lens, which enables the generation of narrow THz pulse widths and pseudo mono-pulses, ideal for reflective signal analysis, which cannot be generated with ordinary photoconductive elements.  This feature facilitates non-destructive, non-contact depth profiling down to 10 micron layer thicknesses.  This new source also expands the usable THz spectral range up to 7 THz.  Application of this new technology in the Li-ion battery, pharmaceutical, and multi-coat automotive paint fields will be discussed.
