There is interest in utilizing waste CO2 for the production of fuels but there are serious scientific challenges that need to be overcome.  Reduction of CO2 to CO and H2O is a complex reaction involving CO2, reductants and protons.  The kinetic limitation of bringing these reagents together in an orchestrated manner is one of key inhibitors of this process.  In this presentation, modified interfaces were designed and constructed to utilize ligands in the secondary coordination environment to address this issue.  Initially, photocatalyst and electrocatalyst were grafted onto the interior surface of silica and carbon based mesoporous materials, respectively.  Ligands designed to assist in the delivery of reagents to the catalyst primary coordination sphere were co-grafted on these supports.  These materials and their catalytic responses were characterized and reported, here.
