The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 is widely used in diesel engine exhaust after treatment.  SCR catalysts for this application typically consist of a metal-exchanged zeolite, and have excellent NH3 storage ability although store little NOx. Ceria is often added to catalysts due to its excellent oxygen storage capacity, but has also been shown to store NOx at low temperature and can even catalyze the oxidation of NO to NO2, with NO2 a key reaction intermediate in SCR chemistry.  In addition cerium catalysts show SCR activity in a temperature range of 350 ?C to 450 ?C. In this study, ceria is combined with framework materials, such SAPO-34 which has the Chabazite structure, for the purpose of NH3-SCR.  The performance of such materials was investigated via characterizing their interactions with NOx, NH3 and NOx + NH3.
