Fluorine is the most electronegative element and has a relatively small size. These properties of fluorine make its incorporation in drugs important. We propose to synthesize specific fluorine-containing molecules that will ultimately be tested for therapeutic. Atropic acid (1) has wide application as an antagonist. The non-fluorinated atropic acid derivative binds to glycine binding sites which help in treatment of number of disease states. We propose to synthesize methyl fluoroatropate (2) by the reaction of methyl benzoylformate (6) with CFCl3.
