Chalcogenide compounds continue to present great challenges for material and inorganic chemists. More new physical properties are reported as new structures are discovered. Structurally, the introduction of extra cations into ternary chalcogenides is expected to decrease the dimensionality,[1] but not always as quaternary chalcogenides within one, two and threedimensional structures have been reported. Compounds with the same stoichiometry can exhibit completely different structures just by changing the sizes of the cations or anions. The variation of the alkali-metal cation and the coinage metal in the AMLn2Q4 (A = K�Cs; M = Cu, Ag; Ln = La�Gd) has no effect on their structures for example, however, tellurium causes structural variations.[2,3] K2Ag3CeTe4[4] is reported as a 3D structure, while the two cesium representatives Cs2Cu3DyTe4 and Cs2Ag3DyTe4 are layered structures. Here we present two new non-isotypical Cs2Cu3DyTe4 and Cs2Ag3DyTe4 tellurides with an unusual Dy coordination environment.
