In this study, fly ash is used as a heterogeneous catalyst to aid in removal of dye in water via the Fenton process. Fe3+ doped fly ash catalysts were prepared via a thermal procedure and added to a dye mixture to aid in an H2O2 activated degradation of Remazol Brilliant Violet 5R. The fly ash and created catalysts were characterized using SEM, XRD, BET, and FT-IR. UV was used to determine the effectiveness of the reaction. The Fe doped fly ash 1 degrades 50% of the dye in 3 minutes while the complete degradation occurs after 30 minutes. Results indicate that while fly ash itself can carry out the Fenton process, there is a significant advantage in iron doping to increase the reaction rate.
