Malodor causes discomfort and long term exposure can result in serious health problem. H2S is a major malodor from anaerobic decomposition of sulfur-containing organic matter found in household and industrial wastes. It is highly toxic and could be a serious threat to health and environment. A new V2O5/TiO2 catalyst capable of treated H2S at near ambient temperature was developed that is capable of greater than 90% conversion of 5 ppm H2S in air at space velocity of 800 min-1. The catalyst was characterized by temperature programmed reduction, micro-Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to identify the active sites.
