Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials constructed from inorganic metal cluster nodes and organic linkers that connect these nodes. Extensively fluorinated aromatic carboxylic acids and tetrazoles with symmetric trigonal and linear geometries were prepared by C�H functionalization of polyfluorinated aromatic precursors. Upon solvothermal deprotonation, these novel ligands were reticulated into unprecedented one-, two-, and three-dimensional fluorinated MOFs. These materials promise to have unique adsorption properties, and will be tested as platforms for capture of anions and other electron-rich species.
