Hot water, ethanol, sodium hydroxide solution, alkali ethanol solution, and alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) solution were selected as the delignification solvents. After delignified by AHP, both the ratio of the total lignin to cellulose content (TL/C) in furfural residue (FR) and the values of lignin to cellulose (A1058/A1057) on the sample surface remarkably reduced from 0.99 to 0.13 and from 0.40 to 0.04, respectively, thus the following enzymatic hydrolysis showed the highest conversion of cellulose to glucose (99.4%). The results suggested that AHP pretreatment had a positive effect on the enzymatic hydrolysis of FR and the lignin content in the delignification. XRD and SEM indicated that the original FR experienced an increase in the crystallinity index from 58.45% to 73.31% and an increment of surface area during the pretreatments. DRIFT analysis showed that the high lignin content on the sample surface resulted in the low enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency.
