Two new approaches toward multi-electron redox chemistry will be described. First, the use of strong-field ligands on first-row transition metals will be described wherein promotion of two-electron chemistry is feasible. Secondly, redox active ligand architectures will be used to drive multi-electron transformations for the activation of small molecules.
