Recently, the isolation and characterization of various mononuclear Pd(III) complexes using the tetradentate ligand, N,N'-di-tert-butyl-2,11-diaza[3.3](2,6)pyridinophane has been reported.  As a result, several variations of the pyridinophane ligands have been synthesized and their effect on the stability and reactivity of the corresponding Pd complexes was studied.  To better understand the importance of the tetradentate nature of these pyridinophane ligands, a modification was made to make the pyridinophane macrocycle act as a pseudo-tridentate ligand.  By studying the effect of ligand denticity on the organometallic reactivity of these complexes, we aim to develop novel catalysts for oxidative C-C and C-heteroatom bond formation reactions.
