The transfer of hydride ligands from copper and ruthenium to pyridinium and aziridinium cations has been investigated.  Such transfer can be concerted, or it can occur by a multistep mechanism (for example, e� transfer followed by H� transfer).  Our group has previously established a multistep mechanism for the transfer of hydride ligands from ruthenium to aziridinium cations, and copper hydrides (E1/2 = �1.0 to �1.2 V vs FcH/FcH+) are better one-electron reductants than ruthenium hydrides.  Stopped-flow techniques have allowed the detection of intermediates in the copper hydride reactions.            The chemical properties of polynuclear copper hydrides  � their structures in crystalline form, their nuclearities in solution, and their electrochemical properties � have also been investigated.
