Conversions of several crystalline polymorphs of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) during ball milling in different time were investigated by FTIR, WAXD and solid-state CP/MAS 13C NMR. FTIR results showed that there were not new function groups on MCC molecules after ball milling. The WAXD (see figure) showed that cellulose ? of control sample converted to amorphous after ball milling 6 hours, then to cellulose ? after ball milling 30 hours. Moreover, WAXD results also indicated that the crystallinity of MCC samples were decreased from 86.15% to 20.02% after 6h ball milling, then were increased to 66.33% after 30h. DPvof MCC was decreased from 150 to 105 after ball milling for 6h. Fig.3.
