Today's business environment is ever changing with the arrival of opportunities in the East - new trading partners and sources of capital - that offer burgeoning opportunities to start-ups, universities, tech transfer offices, and established companies alike.  Start-ups diligently look for sources of capital and to establish a market presence, and are starting to look to China for the source of both.  Established companies see China as a means for new market expansion to increase their market share as well as sources of labor. Universities, on the other hand, see potential in China but are unsure as to which direction to proceed; establish education or research relationships.  Although China provides new market opportunities and an eagerness to license and/or partner on developing technology for all groups, there is a leeriness to do so because of the well publicized risk in doing so.  This presentation is the first of four talks that will give a sense of the business climber in China with respect to IP, and begin to lay the groundwork on ways to attempt to mitigate these risks.
