There are over 250 liberal arts colleges in the USA, ranging from elite institutions with huge endowments to small schools seeking out their niche in today's competitive higher education economy. The teaching, research, and service requirements for new faculty at these colleges will vary as much as the schools themselves. Newly minted Ph.D.s in chemistry who are applying for positions at such institutions must take this into account when preparing their application packages. This talk will address the author's experiences at one such small liberal arts college where teaching is the number one consideration in hiring new faculty.
