Many graduate students know that they want to teach when they enter grad school (instead of pursuing a career in industry).  For most of these people the �big decision� is whether to prepare for an academic career that focuses on research at an R1 institution or to focus on working with undergraduates in both the classroom and the lab at a primarily undergrad institution (PUI).  But what happens when life throws you a curve ball and you end up taking a position as a lecturer at a primarily research based institution?  Research is no longer at the forefront of the job description; teaching is the most important part of your responsibilities!  But you aren't preparing to teach in small lecture halls anymore, on your first day of class you'll have over 200 or 300 sets of eyes staring down at you!  Maybe not what you initially thought of when you contemplated a career in teaching, but a greatly rewarding experience.  In this presentation I will share my experience and viewpoints on being a lecturer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
