There is continuing interest in the potential to efficiently capture CO2 at coal-fired power plants via scrubbing with aqueous solutions containing mixtures of amines, amino acids, alkali, inorganic buffers, and/or CO2 hydration catalysts. Assessing their utility requires a working model of a coupled absorber/stripper system. For preliminary and scoping calculations, it suffices to develop ad hoc solutions to the algebraic and differential equations that govern interphase transport and reaction. Simulation of the performance of coupled absorption and stripping columns is computationally intensive by virtue of the repetitive calculations along a column's height, the multiple levels of trial and error associated with the need to match the states of streams entering and leaving the respective columns and, beyond that, the additional layers of calculations required to optimize a design. With the aim of minimizing computation time without significantly compromising accuracy, we have previously developed analytical solutions after linearizing the ordinary differential equations in steady-state film theory models of interphase mass transfer mediated by multiple reactions with widely different characteristic times, and demonstrated their accuracy by comparison with the results of computationally intensive exact numerical solutions (see, for example, Meldon and Cabrera-Morales, �Analysis of carbon dioxide absorption in and stripping from aqueous monoethanolamine,� Chem. Eng. J. 171, 753-759, 2011).  Here we demonstrate the same approach's utility for simulating CO2 absorption in and stripping from the aqueous blends.
