Alkene difunctionalizations are widely used for the stereoselective synthesis of highly functionalized small molecules. Our group has developed a platform for alkene difunctionalization that capitalizes on the unique reactivity of heteroatom-centered radicals. The processes enabled by this reactivity both complement transition-metal-catalyzed difunctionalizations, and constitute new transformations for chemical synthesis. Recent developments in this area, with a focus on aerobic difunctionalization variants, will be presented.
