The application package for a tenure-track position generally includes: cover letter, vita, teaching philosophy statement, research proposal(s) and references. The selection process involves evaluation of the applicant's documents by a search committee, phone and on-campus interviews, followed by an offer and negotiations for successful applicants . Each of the documents and  stages of the hiring process mentioned above will be discussed from the perspective of the search committee, with emphasis on vital elements and pitfalls that have an impact on the decision making process. Additionally we will address the importance of a clear and realistic picture of expectations (from point of view of the university) that the candidate should have before embarking on a search for an academic position.
