We have acquired vibrational sum frequency spectra of biologically relevant amino acid residues and lipids at aqueous interfaces. Surface tension measurements have been acquired to quantify the changes (or lack of change) in molecular orientation and/or conformation at the water surface as a function of the number densities of the surface active species. These experiments were performed to provide a baseline for future studies of molecular level interactions between amino acid residues in proteins and interactions between proteins and lipids.
