Batch anaerobic digestion of Hura crepitans L. leaves was carried out at ambient temperature to evaluate biogas production at four loading rates (LR) of 35g L-1, 50g L-1, 65g L-1 and 80g L-1. The digesters were labeled A to D. The results showed that 80g L-1 LR had the highest total biogas production of 1430mL followed by 65g L-1 with 1340mL at a retention time of 21 days. Biogas production from 80g L-1 was 113% and 74% higher than 35g L-1 and 50g L-1 respectively. Therefore, 80g L-1LR was chosen as the optimal condition for co-digestion with cattle manure. Varying proportion of cattle manure (5g, 10g, 15g and 20g) was added to the substrate and labeled AC, BC, CC and DC respectively. Digester AC had a cumulative volume of 1690mL while BC had 2190mL. CC had the highest biogas volume of 2630mL while DC recorded the least value of 1540mL. Conclusively, co-digestion of Hura crepitans leaves with cattle manure had positive effects on biogas production under mesophilic conditions in comparison to anaerobic digestion of the substrate alone.Keywords:  Hura crepitans leaves, anaerobic digestion, cattle dung, biogas, co-digestion
