Students in the Laboratory Science Technology (LST) program, a chemical technology program at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf/Rochester Institute of Technology (NTID/RIT), have demonstrated an enhanced understanding of climate change-related concepts by using the educational material contained in the new American Chemical Society (ACS) Climate Change Toolkit.  The ACS Climate Change Toolkit is an easily accessible website-based collection of information that was developed to bring improved general awareness and understanding of climate change concepts to the community. In a case study of deaf and hard-of-hearing sophomores in the LST program, students improved their understanding of climate change concepts after using the ACS Climate Change Toolkit, and even more significantly after being involved in active learning activities developed based on the Toolkit.  Pre-and post- utilization assessments show improvement in student understanding and decreased evidence of common misconceptions related to climate change concepts by using the Toolkit- and also show the synergistic effect of adding active learning activities.
