DFT calculations were employed to study the behavior of silver atom reactions with SO2, the obtained results suggest that both the two complexes Ag(?1-SO2) and Ag(?2-O2S) were energy preferred species, which were observed following laser-ablated silver atom reactions with SO2 during condensation in solid argon or neon. More interestingly, these two isomers are interconvertible; that is, visible light induces the conversion of the S-coordinated complex Ag(?1-SO2) to the ?2-O,O' coordinated one Ag(?2-O2S) and vice versa on annealing. The bonding within each complex is also discussed.
