We studied an application of the high throughput experimentation to an evaluation of the HDS catalyst loading profiles for atmospheric residue. When decreasing the amount of catalyst in reactors, the sulfur conversion decreases accordingly. And the HDS activity gradually increased when the product N was less than ca 1,200massppm. This behavior suggests that the decrease of the HDS activity is caused by the adsorption of nitrogen compounds on HDS active sites. This observation shows a validity of the high throughput experimentation for systematic and rapid evaluation of the RDS catalyst loading profiles.
