Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are used extensively and have been detected in aquatic environments. There is little research investigating various factors that affect the aqueous photo-degradation of naproxen (NXP), ibuprofen (IBP) and tylosin (TYL). Especially, the available data for TYL photo-transformation is very limited due to its complex chemical structure. We investigate the kinetics of direct and indirect photolysis of NXP, IBP and TYL. The results obtained at 254 nm are compared with the results under simulated sunlight and natural sunlight. Measured photochemical parameters, such as quantum yield and the reaction rate constants are reported to model UV photolysis and UV/H2O2 oxidation process. The experimental results illustrate that the presence of H2O2 and nitrate in solution results in more rapid degradation, while the presence of fulvic acid (FA) and humic acid (HA) in solution decrease the kinetic rate constants The of the photochemical reaction by-products are identified by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS).
