Granular mesoporous carbon (GMC) was synthesized by using a hard-template method and new granulation method, which enhanced the physical properties such as BET surface area, total pore volume, and pore size distribution, with various polymers such as carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as organic binders. The synthesized GMC was subsequently characterized by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and BET analysis. Pharmaceuticals as target contaminants are one of new emerging pollutants and are found ubiquitously up to �g L-1 in environments. The column test was conducted in lab-scale for removal of pharmaceuticals from pharmaceutical manufacturers. These results suggest that the granular mesoporous carbon could be one of most promising materials for removal of pharmaceuticals in various water treatments.
