Degradation of contaminants by microbes and reactive natural soil mineral has been extensively studied to investigate fate and transport of the contaminants in natural environments. Especially, green rust known as Fe(II)�Fe(III) hydroxide exist in sub-anoxic environments has showed a potential to reductively degrade hazardous contaminants. In this study, chemogenic and biogenic green rusts were synthesized and used to PCE degradation. Both green rusts were firstly characterized by measurement of Fe(II) content, BET, X-ray diffraction, and TEM before the reaction. Degradation kinetic of PCE was monitored by GC instruments at each sampling time and compared to the green rusts. Significant environmental factors (i.e., pH, presence of anions and electron shuttles) were evaluated for the degradation kinetic of PCE to investigate effect of each factor on reactivity of the green rusts.
