Considerable interest in determining levels of trace elements in drinking water has occurred in the last twenty years. This interest comes from studies attempting to determine the role that trace elements play in the flavor and toxicology of water as well as in food. Radiochemical methods, like instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA), are common techniques used to determine dietary trace levels of various elements. A summary of other methods will also be reported. The results of a study done on the analysis of drinking water near and far from thermal springs will be presented in evidence of using the INAA technique. The focus of this study is on the island of Ikaria, Greece, which has been designated as a Blue Zone. This designation is given to an area in the world where inhabitants are reported to eat a Mediterranean diet and have a daily life that prolongs longevity.
