The Fairmont State University ACS Student Affiliates chapter has recently revitalized itself through involvement in outreach activities by reaching out to the community, local secondary schools, and fellow students to promote science education. The club has painted the periodic table in the science building, gotten involved in homecoming activities, raised money and developed a series of chemical demonstrations. The decision to develop demonstrations was the real driving force behind the revitalization. We will talk about the time involvement, safety, development, the presentations of the demos and the enthusiasm they generated within the club. This directly led to chapter growth in local and national membership. It also generated a large number of ideas for future events. Including, painting pertinent chemical information on the science building walls, getting seminar speakers, and contacting other local ACS student clubs for joint activities.
