Chemistry Club at IUPUI had an excellent year with activities focused on four areas: (1) service to students, (2) community service (3) education and (4) fun.The primary area of service to students was a series of �exam jams� that were organized and conducted by members to help first semester general chemistry students prepare for their exams. Students were also served by the annual sale of lab notebooks and goggles, a fundraising activity that gives students options that are better, and cheaper, than those available at the campus bookstore.Students participated in outreach activities including making liquid nitrogen ice cream at numerous events. Club members engaged in campus days of service, including the local MLK Day of Service. A special fundraiser for a local family shelter has taken place just prior to Valentine's Day for the past two years. The �Hotties for your Hottie� sale raises money by selling chemical hand-warmers on campus. Besides raising money for the shelter, club members get to talk with non-science students about exothermic reactions!An education component was included in regular monthly meetings this year. In most cases, faculty members gave an overview of their ongoing research efforts. Students also had the opportunity to give presentations on their own undergraduate research. Goals were to help all students, especially freshmen and sophomores, become familiar with a variety of scientific career options and to get them thinking about engaging in research.Social activities and engagement of Chemistry Club in pure fun is exemplified by members' involvement in the IUPUI Regatta. This signature campus event involves canoe races and some craziness on the canal that runs through downtown Indianapolis near the IUPUI campus. Students also linked education and fun with events like a brewery tour, where a local brewmaster discussed the science of brewing.
