Bisphenol A (BPA) containing products are under stricter regulation. Many manufacturers are switching to other types of bisphenols.  They are very similar to BPA and so are useful in making polycarbonates, but will still, most likely, be linked to toxicity.  The purpose of this study is to understand the behavior of various types of bisphenols when filtered.  Samples of Bis(4-hydroxydiphenyl)methane (BPF), Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)sulfone (BPS), 2,2-Bis(3-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (BPC), 1,1-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-cyclohexane (BPZ), and Phenol were filtered using syringe filters made of Cellulose Acetate, Nylon, and PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene).There was variability in the adsorption of bisphenols on various filter media, but generally, PTFE filters adsorbed the least and Nylon filters, adsorbed the most bisphenols. Adsorption characteristics of all the filter materials and bisphnenols will be presented.
