Presently there is keen interest in particulate matter (PM) emission and modeling from jet fuels, with interest extending to physical nanostructure. To establish a more tractable and lab-scale system, soots were generated from a premixed, flat-flame burner system fueled with petroleum-based JP-8, synthetic Fischer-Tropsch (FT) and Hydro-treated Renewable Jet (HRJ) fuels, and the two-component surrogate (23% m-Xylene & 77% n-Dodecane). Results are compared with the nanostructure of the soot derived from real jet engine. Surrogate jet fuel components individually produce similar soot nanostructure (fullerenic) but together, an altogether different nanostructure - more graphitic and less curved carbon lamella. These results are interpreted as reflecting the different gas species contributing to soot growth. To further investigate the origin of fullerenic nanostructure in soot from a jet engine running FT & HRJ fuels, the effect of adiabatic flame temperature (1600oC & 2000oC) and fuel/air equivalent ratio (F  = 2.0 & 2.2) on soot nanostructure is evaluated using the flat flame burner with these same fuels.
