The application of uranium for chemical transformations is a fairly underdeveloped field due to the inability of this element to perform fundamental organometallic transformations such as oxidative addition and reductive elimination. In an attempt to further our knowledge of the reactivity of this heavy, f-block metal we have employed the use of redox active ligands to mediate their reactivity. Herein we report the synthesis and characterization of several uranium redox active ligand complexes containing both pyridine diimine ligand (PDI) and N,N-bis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-phenoxide)amide (ONO) ligands. All complexes are characterized via paramagnetic 1H NMR spectroscopy, UV-Vis NIR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. The redox chemistry of these complexes as well as their ability to perform multi-electron processes will be discussed.
