Incorporating simulation technology into large lecture classes presents opportunities and challenges. The use of simulations in class provides an opportunity for students to construct conceptual understanding through experiment and to engage in collaborative learning with instructor guidance. Challenges include providing students with access to the simulations, making sure students understand the goal of the simulation, and engaging all students in the simulation activity.  Here we present the use of PhET chemistry simulations in two large lectures (~200 and ~400 students) of a first semester General Chemistry course.  The simulations were used in student-centered activities on student computers, and on the instructor's computer to demonstrate concepts from the lecture.  In-class concept tests (clicker questions) were incorporated into both activities. In addition, PhET simulations were assigned for out-of-class exercises. We will share survey results on student perceptions of bringing computers to class and the usefulness of the simulations, as well as results of clicker questions, and classroom observations of simulation use.
