Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is an organochlorine compound that was widely used as a wood preservative and is found in human blood and urine. Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that destroy tumor and virally-infected cells. PCP decreases the ability of NK cells to kill target cells.  PCP also decreases the tumor-target binding function and cell-surface protein levels of NK cells at 10 �M, 5�M, 2.5 �M, and 1 �M after various lengths of exposure. The current study reveals the effects of PCP on the activation of the components of the MAP kinase pathway, which include p44/42, p38, and JNK using the same concentration for 10 min, 1 hr, and 6 hrs. Western blotting analysis indicates activation at concentrations beginning at 5�M when NK cells are exposed to PCP for 10 min, 1 hr, and 6 hrs.
