The synthesis of porous carbons based on polybenzoxazines has been the focus of intensive research, owing to the advanced properties including multireactive surface, low volumetric shrinkage and remarkably thermal and mechanical stability.[1-3] As for benzoxazine chemistry, heterocyclic benzoxazine monomers are first generated by the Mannich condensation of phenols, aldehydes and amines; subsequently, the polybenzoxazines are formed through thermally activated polymerization. Such newly developed carbon precursor, i.e., polybenzoxazines, offers a high degree of flexibility in the molecular design of polymer nanostructures, and thus versatile high performance carbons.[4,5]In this lecture, a new synthesis of highly uniform carbon nanospheres based on benzoxazine chemistry will be presented. Their sizes can be precisely adjusted in the range of 95~225 nm by a straightforward temperature programming process. Moreover, the heterogeneity arising from the doping nitrogen functional groups is endowed with much more robust functions in catalysis, electrochemistry and so on. Alternatively, we also successfully prepared polybenzoxazines-based porous carbon monoliths with multiple-length-scale porosity (macro-, meso-, and micropores), nitrogen-containing framework and remarkable mechanical strength. The obtained carbon monoliths show excellent performance in CO2 capture and separation. Both equilibrium and dynamic capacities, and selectivity are highest by far among the reported CO2 capture carbon materials and they can be facilely regenerated.(1) S. Wang, W.-C. Li, G.-P. Hao, Y.
