More than a decade after PTA was introduced, the PTO's interpretations of the statutes have been challenged several times, in some cases leading to significant windfalls of additional PTA for patentees.  I will discuss the overall framework of PTA calculation, as well as the various cases that have resulted in revised interpretations of the rules.  Implicit in the discussion will be considerations of how to maxmize PTA within the current methods of calculation.
