The development of strategies for the synthesis of fused heterocycles is an important goal as many such compounds display significant pharmacological properties. Saturated oxygen containing heterocycles, of varying size, are common structural features of many biologically active natural products and synthetic drugs. In order to confirm their structures and gain sufficient material for full biological assessment of the natural products and analogues, the development of efficient methods for the synthesis of oxygen heterocycles remains an important goal to the medicinal chemists. In this study we focus on the development of an efficient approach for the assembly of tricyclic oxygen heterocycles with an angular hydroxy group. This is the first report for the synthesis of 4a-hydroxy-9-phenyldecahydro-1H-xanthene-1,8(8aH)-dione following green route.
