Solvents are thought to make up ~80% of all waste generated in chemical transformations. Because of this, researchers have studied ways to reduce overall solvent consumption and developed methods that utilize green solvents such as water and ethanol. One way to reduce solvent usage is to create multistep transformations that can be carried out in a single reaction vessel. This limits solvent waste that is required in reaction set-up, work-up and purification procedures that are typically required in each part of a multistep synthesis. This poster highlights a new microwave-assisted tandem reaction of chromones and aminopyrazoles followed by a tin-free radical addition carried out in green solvents. A library of substituted aminopyrazole chromones was prepared using this new procedure. The compounds were then screened for antimicrobial activities.
