Series of cyclometalated Pt(II) complexes [Pt(phebox)]+ (phebox =2,6-bis(4',4'-dimethyl-2'-oxazolinyl) phenyl) with bidentate ligands (L) were prepared and characterized. 1H NMR data indicate  the stabilities of [Pt(phebox)L] are highly associated with the properties of the bidentate ligands. Electrochemical measurements and UV-visible absorption data suggest that the dangling nucleophile groups help to stabilize the Pt(II) center, emission data support this conclusion, too. Those complexes have intense emission at room temperature and are easily oxidized to Pt(IV) complexes by oxygen at room temperature.
