Oxidation catalysis with vanadium-containing species is a field of continued interest. The vanadium centers are thought to exist in multiple oxidation states in extended solids of known industrial oxidation catalysts, including VOPO4. Previously we had reported the synthesis and characterization of oxalate-bridged dinuclear vanadium(IV) complexes for potential use as oxidation catalysts and as a first step towards structural mimics for the industrially-used vanadyl phosphate oxidation catalyst. The complexes had the general formula (CpPOR,ORCoVX)2(�-oxalate) (R=Me, Et; X = O, Cl, OH), where CpPOR,ORCo represents derivatives of the Kl�ui ligand. Several members of the series displayed unusual magnetic behavior and structural differences via X-ray diffraction, which led to increased investigation of possible mixed oxidation state dimers. Deliberate preparation of mixed oxidation state species, then, has been undertaken. The structural, spectral, and magnetic data for these new compounds will be discussed.
