Dirhodium compounds of the general formula cis-[Rh2(�-P((C6H5)3)2(L)2]2+ where L represents dpq (dipyrido[3,2-f:2',3'-h]quinoxaline), dppz (dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine), or dppn (benzodipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine) have been investigated for their use in a variety of different applications, from use in photodynamic therapy as dual binding anti-cancer agents to catalytic water splitting. Their ground and excited state properties have been investigated by femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption, UV-VIS spectroscopy and fluorescence emission. Their use as potential photodynamic therapy agents has been explored using gel electrophoresis and singlet oxygen quantum yield.
