Iron oxide nanoparticles have been successfully incorporated into the mesoporous carbons by the wet impregnation method. Our result indicated that the nitrite acid treatment of carbon is critical for the control of nanoparticles' size. The good ionic conductivity of mesoporous system and the better electronic conductivity of carbon skeleton greatly enhanced the electrochemical performance of iron oxide as supercapacitor anode. The specific capacitance of iron oxide could reach ~600 F/g at 5 mV/s, and maintains 80 % capacitance at 200 mV/s, with good stability and reversibility.
