Tetradentate ligand tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine) (TPA) and its derivatives have been used extensively in modeling the active sites of particular mono- and dinuclear non-heme metalloproteins involved in dioxygen activation, such as Fe- and Cu-containing metalloproteins. Based on TPA, we have prepared a pentadentate ligand, N,N-Bis(2-pyridinylmethyl)-2,2'-Bipyridine-6-methanamine (DPA-Bpy). Metal complexes of DPA-Bpy (M = Ru, Co, Ni) have been studied in our group as catalysts for the oxidation and reduction of water molecules.6,7 We will report the derivatives of DPA-Bpy ligand and their metal complexes for the catalytic splitting of water.
