The guiding principles behind the Sloan Foundation's funding for the education and professional advancement of individuals from underrepresented groups in STEM will be traced back to grants made while Alfred P. Sloan was President of the Foundation decades ago. The current structure of the Sloan Minority Ph.D. Program and the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership will be presented, along with information about the developing portfolio of grants being made that support individuals and institutions as they advance in their careers, particularly in academia, after earning a doctoral degree in STEM.
